Charlie, who describes himself as the jack of all trades at Peacock Turfscape, is a vital part of the team, handling a variety of roles including yard man and relief driver. His responsibilities range from ensuring lorries are loaded and customers are served to helping keep staff happy and well-trained.
Charlie joined the company nearly four years ago, right as the Covid rules were relaxing. Leaving his position at our head office in Ayr, Charlie was attracted to the role by the promise of a new challenge and the excitement of a different environment. He found the customer facing aspect of working at Peacock Turfscape particularly appealing and this shows as he can always be seen chatting to customers while loading or making deliveries. Some call it building rapport, others call it banter!
Charlie's professional background is quite diverse. Before joining Peacock Turfscape, he managed a successful retail store, but before that he was a trained highland tailor, having trained with the infamous Houston Kiltmakers in Paisley.
When it comes to what he enjoys most about his job, Charlie says it's everything. There's no aspect he dislikes, though he prefers being in the yard over driving. It’s funny that he should say this as our customers appreciate his helpfulness on the road and take time to tell us so!
Charlie's motivation stems not only from his love for the job but also his philosophy of working hard and playing hard. For him, playing hard means taking holidays abroad and spending time with his family in their motorhome whenever he gets the chance. Charlie loves family time but also enjoys the rare escape when its just him and his Mrs!
A keen music lover, Charlie owns eight guitars and is particularly proud of his Les Paul and Eddie Van Halen. Though he modestly admits he's not great at playing, his passion for rock and metal, is evident when he tries.
A little-known fact about Charlie is that he once won Branch of the Year in his previous role with Victoria Wine and had to deliver a performance speech in front of 3,500 people! Despite initial nerves, a couple of beverages helped him through it, highlighting his ability to rise to the occasion whatever that may be.
Charlie’s dedication to the team cannot be faltered and his positive, friendly attitude makes him a real asset at Peacock Turfscape. He really does understand that every customer is important and always strives to make sure everyone is tended to quickly and efficiently. Thank you, Charlie!
